The tactics they employ are not at all new, but many still fall for them. Knowing how and why they still work might someday save you.
There’s an immeasurable amount of information on the internet about fitness, nutrition, and working out. However, the majority of people that embark on their fitness journey find themselves stopping after a short while, failing to achieve even a small portion of their goals. This is because the hardest part of becoming a better version of yourself isn’t really the working out or exercising part, it’s having the mentality to to do it consistently. It’s having the mindset to push yourself on a regular basis. People need not to only develop only their physical strength, but their mental strength as well.
Picture yourself doing something you’re perfectly capable of doing. You’ve done it many times before. But one day, you’re asked to do the same thing, but with one slight difference: people will be observing you while you’re doing it. These aren’t just any people though, they’re the people who make it clear that they have low expectations for you and that they think you’re not capable of anything. As a result, you feel extra pressure to perform well and you get nervous. Subconsciously, your muscles tense up or stiffen which ends up in you failing to do what you’ve been previously able to do. The people who’ve underestimated you have a good laugh and feel good about themselves because you’ve met their low expectations for you. You’ve fulfilled the prophecy that they’ve given you.

The stereotype of being a mind reader comes up quite often when the topic of psychology or being in a psychology major program is brought up. Before I was in the program, I too thought that being a psychologist would allow you to read minds, but now I understand that that is a big misconception.Continue reading “A PSYCHOLOGIST CAN’T READ MINDS”
“Toxic Masculinity.” On an almost daily basis, I see this term being used in social media.
